Information again appeared on the network that Android smartphones will increase in price.
The reason for this is the transition to the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, which will be significantly more expensive for Qualcomm's current flagship platform. Wccftech reports this.
According to preliminary data, Gen 4 will be manufactured using TSMC's 3nm process. And although this guarantees a large increase in power, it will also lead to an increase in production costs. Insiders note that the cost of the chip will be “many times” more expensive than Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
The first smartphones based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will begin to appear on the market this fall. It is not known exactly how expensive the transition to a new processor will be, but you can be sure that manufacturers will pass on the additional costs to the consumer. At a minimum, the prices of the Samsung Galaxy S25, OnePlus 13, Xiaomi 15 and other top flagships will increase.
However, this could potentially mean that we should not wait for affordable Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 flagships. We are talking about devices in the $400-500 price category, which are very popular among users.
Plus, many large companies may completely cancel their flagships based on the new Qualcomm platform and switch to MediaTek.
