The Canadian program for simplified acceptance of Ukrainian refugees will not be extended for a new term. Radio Maximum tells the reasons in a new article.

The Globe & Mail writes about this with reference to the words of Canadian Immigration Minister Mark Miller.

The minister said that he has no intention extend the urgent visa program for Ukrainians beyond the deadline, requiring those willing to come to Canada by the end of the month. According to him, the continuation of this program is “not actively considered”.

At the same time, Miller emphasized that Canada will maintain “flexibility” in responding to the migration aspect of the war in Ukraine.

We remind you that in March 2022, Canada announced the Canadian-Ukrainian Emergency Travel Authorization (CUAET) program, under which nearly 250,000 Ukrainians have so far arrived in the country. This program entitles Ukrainians fleeing the war to urgently obtain a multi-year work and residence permit in Canada, as well as financial assistance and temporary free settlement.

New applications for this program are already closed and holders of such visas must arrive in Canada by the end of March to use it.
