In addition, Avalanche Canada says it has listed three fatal avalanche incidents in the Rocky Mountain backcountry since the start of the year.
The latest one occurred in last weekend when a man snowmobiling near the Castle Mountain ski area in southwestern Alberta was killed. Two children and another man who accompanied him managed to escape.
Avalanche Canada stresses that it is difficult to know exactly how many people lose their lives in snow slides, because there isn't really a database for that.
