A voice assistant based on ChatGPT in our cars

General Motors, Volkswagen, Stellantis… Since last year, car manufacturers have been interested in the question of artificial intelligence. On Wednesday January 31, Peugeot launched a pilot version of its voice assistant, enhanced by the capabilities of ChatGPT.

“Generative AI can both offer answers to specific questions, for example telling you which monuments to visit in a city, presenting them to you and taking you there in coordination with the navigation system. It can also liven up your trip by interacting with the occupants, giving free rein to your creativity…”, rejoiced Peugeot in a press release.

For the moment, the model is in the testing phase, notably on the new e-3008 electric car, but also several small utility vehicles from the French brand. They will integrate OpenAI artificial intelligence into their on-board computer, as was done on DS automobile brand models last year. The parent company, Stellantis (merger of PSA Peugeot-Citroën and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), has announced that this increase will be deployed in several of its models, in France, Germany or Great Britain, without waiting for 2025.

As Siècle Digital reports, it was the American manufacturer General Motors which first had the idea. Building on its partnership with Microsoft, which is the main shareholder of OpenAI, the brand wanted to capitalize as quickly as possible on this tool, now “present in all areas”. The same goes for Volkswagen, which has made it its priority for 2024.
