Analytical firm AltIndex has published a new report on the sale of smartphones worldwide from 2014 to 2024. It follows that things have become a little worse for Samsung, but it still managed to maintain its leadership in the market.
So, over the decade, the South Korean giant sold almost three billion phones. That's 33% more than Apple and more than Xiaomi, Huawei and Vivo combined.
At the same time, Samsung's sales have been steadily declining. If in 2014 the company released 292.3 million devices, then by the end of 2022, annual deliveries will drop by 18% — to 258 million.
Apple came in second with a result of 2.203 billion. Between 2014 and 2015, iPhone sales jumped 20% to 231 million units. Then they decreased for almost four years, but from 2019 they started to grow again. And in 2023, they reached a record indicator for that time — 231.8 million.
As a result, Samsung's share fell by 10% over the last decade, while Apple's supply grew by 2%. The decline of the South Korean company is explained by the appearance on the market of many budget smartphones from Chinese brands, primarily Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo.
The most popular smartphone brands in the last 10 years:
- < li>Samsung — 2.937 billion units.
- Apple — 2.203 billion units.
- Xiaomi — 1.147 billion units.
- Huawei — 1.057 billion units.
- Oppo — 911.9 million units.
- Vivo — 526.6 million units.
Samsung now accounts for 20.8% of the global market, Apple — 17.3%, and Xiaomi — 14.1%. It is interesting that for a Chinese company this is three times more than 10 years ago. It is rapidly approaching the people of Cupertino.
