Ukrainian director Mstislav Chernov was invited to join the American Film Academy

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 487 members to join, including 71 Oscar nominees and 19 winners. One of the invitees was the Ukrainian director Mstislav Chernov, as well as Serhii Loznytsia.

All artists who confirm the invitation will take part in the voting at the next Oscar. This is stated on the website of the Academy.

Among the invitees are actresses Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Full”), Catherine O'Hara (“Home Alone”), Sandra Guller (“Anatomy of the Fall”), Greta Lee (“Past Lives”), casting directors Dixie Chassay (“Dune: Part Two”), Luis Rosales (“Cassandro”) and others.

These extraordinarily talented artists and professionals from around the world have had a significant impact on our filmmaking community, said Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Young in a statement.

Those who agree to accept invitation, will be able to participate in the next voting for the winners of the “Oscar” award.

We remind you that the Ukrainian documentary film directed by Mstislav Chernov “20 Days in Mariupol” won the 2024 Oscar as the best feature length documentary film. This is the first Ukrainian film to be awarded an American Film Academy Award.

Ukrainian director Serhiy Loznytsia, who received the award for the best documentary film at the Cannes Film Festival “Babin Yar. Context” about the killing of Jews by the Nazis in Kyiv during the Second World War, also invited.
