The United States supported Seoul's decision to impose sanctions against Russian courts

The United States welcomed South Korea's decision to impose sanctions against Russian vessels suspected of transporting weapons from North Korea.

"We welcome the Republic of Korea's recent steps to disrupt and expose arms transfers between the DPRK and Russia, including sanctions… against two Russian courts involved in arms transfers to Russia" – “It is important that the international community send a strong, unified message that the DPRK must stop its irresponsible behavior and fulfill its obligations in accordance with resolutions of the UN Security Council and engage in serious and stable diplomatic work", – indicated a representative of the department in a letter sent to the Korean service “GA”.

In early April, South Korea unilaterally imposed sanctions against two Russian ships involved in the delivery of military cargo from North Korea to Russia.

The next day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called Seoul's decision an unfriendly step that would lead“only to escalating tensions” and "will have a negative consequence for relations with Russia".
