Spain has announced that it will recognize a sovereign Palestinian state by July, a decision that could mark a turning point for other European states.

Spain's Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez told reporters that Madrid is diplomatically recognizes Palestine by July.

The plan was confirmed by Foreign Minister José Manuel Albarez, who said that this would help an independent Palestine join the UN, reports Voice of America.

The catalyst was attack by Israeli forces on a World Central Kitchen convoy that killed seven aid workers.

The incident sparked outrage in Spain.

Prime Minister Sanchez on Wednesday, April 3, called &quot ;insufficient" and "unacceptable" response from Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, who said that the Israeli military killed aid workers “unintentionally.”

The non-governmental organization World Central Kitchen is headed by the famous Spanish-American chef José Andrés.
