The city of Florence wants to encourage people to switch from cars to bicycles. More than 1.2 million euros have been allocated to this initiative.

The incentive program is called Pedala, Firenze ti premia (“Pedal, Florence will reward you”) and offers participants the opportunity to earn up to 30 euros per month. This is reported by The Mayor.

Everyone who switches to two-wheeled transport will receive – 20 cents per kilometer, plus 5 cents for each kilometer on “shared” bicycles if they remain in within the limits of the municipality of Florence.

Cyclists who already use bicycles will receive up to 15 cents per kilometer. Participants can create up to two routes: “home – school/university” and “home – work”.

To participate, you need to download the app of the company Pin Bike and get A Bluetooth device that confirms the use of the bike, as well as a smartphone mount on the handlebars and signal lights.

The city of Florence says it will also give a bonus of €100 every month to 200 users , who will earn the most points in the app through various “acts of virtue” as well as participating in events and surveys.

The program will start on June 3rd and last for one year with the goal of helping to change the habit of moving to more stable and healthy modes of transport.
