Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin are developing a new missile system: fire support at a distance of up to 400 kilometers

German defense conglomerate Rheinmetall and the main supplier of weapons to the Pentagon Lockheed Martin is set to jointly present its Global Mobile Artillery Missile System (GMARS) at the Eurosatory 2024 defense exhibition.

Designed to meet the changing needs of today's battlefield, GMARS offers accurate and cost-effective fire support missions up to 400 kilometers away.

The GMARS system — is a versatile, two-capsule multiple launch system that supports current and future long-range multiple launch missions. It provides 24/7 precision fire in any weather, increasing the strategic capabilities of the armed forces.

GMARS, developed in response to the growing demand for long-range rocket artillery, is the result of a collaboration between Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin that began in 2023. The system integrates a dual-pod launcher capable of firing MLRS with MFOM (unguided missile) munitions, providing long-range accuracy and effectiveness.

The GMARS system offers the flexibility to grow and adapt, supporting future capabilities and extended ranges of over 400 kilometers. This adaptability ensures that GMARS remains a relevant and valuable asset to armed forces facing persistent threats.
