Quebec is providing $14.2 million over five years to set up the Anticosti world heritage site. This is an amount that was included in Finance Minister Eric Girard’s budget, unveiled earlier this week.

Last September, the island of Anticosti was officially included on the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. With these fossils, a 1080 km2 portion of the island is full of history.

Elected officials from the region contacted by Radio-Canada on Friday maintain that it is still too early to comment, since few details have been revealed for the moment.

A meeting of the committee responsible for the Anticosti heritage site should be held next week, to discuss the details of this sum. p>

In the budget plan, we can read that Quebec wishes to fulfill the international commitments it made at the time of Anticosti's candidacy as a world heritage site. The government also wants to meet the expectations of partners involved in the island's candidacy such as the scientific community.
