Online even in the dark: how to ensure Internet operation during blackouts

In a situation where electricity is becoming a luxury, it is important for Ukrainians to find ways to stay connected

Due to problems in the energy system of Ukraine, many citizens are forced to adapt to life without constant access to electricity. This means that the light from candles and the absence of the Internet are becoming a new reality for many households.

About how to stay online during power outages, the editors of the News Pro website tell.

For those who depend on the Internet for work or study, there is a solution that can help in conditions of prolonged power outages – Wi-Fi router. The use of GPON technology allows you to have access to the Internet without dependence on electricity. Just connect your router and optical terminal to the power bank and you can stay online for up to 10-12 hours, provided your Internet provider also uses autonomous power, such as generators.

How to use the Internet in the absence of electricity

Make sure that your home is equipped with the necessary equipment to access the fiber optic Internet. By connecting the optical terminal and the router to an external power source (power bank or small generator), you can use the Internet and charge the laptop at the same time. To stay connected to the Internet when there is only Wi-Fi and a power bank, you need to:

  1. Connect the power bank to an optical terminal and a Wi-Fi router;
  2. Use two USB cables DC size 5.5 mm x 2.1 mm;
  3. Provide several power banks: one for the router, one for the optical terminal.
  4. If there are special cables for increasing the voltage, you can do with one by the bank.

These measures will help the citizens of Ukraine to stay connected and productive, even in cases of prolonged power outages, while work continues to stabilize the country's power system.

How to stay connected during blackouts

Sometimes during a blackout, you may also lose or lose your mobile connection. However, this can be solved in a few simple ways. Download the map of unbreakable points in the Action app. This will help you find the nearest place where you can:

  • charge your phone;
  • connect to the Internet;
  • call your relatives.

You can also use national roaming, for this:

  • Turn off auto network selection:
  1. On Android: settings -&gt ; mobile network (or connection) -> operator.
  2. On iOS: options -> cellular data -> network selection.
  • Find and select an available network: Vodafone UA, UA-KYIVSTAR or LIFECELL.
  • If connection fails, try again or select another network.
  • Check the ability to make outgoing calls and send SMS.

Another option — this is a connection to Internet providers that use XPon technologies. Thanks to this, you will be able to have Internet for up to 72 hours during power outages. Check on the interactive map from the Ministry of Digital and LUN whether your provider has connected XPon. If so, buy a power bank and connect it to the router.
