France and Germany want to jointly create long-range shock weapons. This is reported by the publication Hartpunkt.
“France and Germany, together with their partners, initiate long-term comprehensive and inclusive cooperation in the field of long-range weapons,” – it is stated in the statement based on the conclusions of the German-French Defense and Security Council held in Meseberg (Germany).
There are no details about the project at the moment, except for the probable terms. According to reports, they want to implement it after two other ambitious programs, namely the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) and the Main Ground Combat System (MGCS). >
The first aims to create a sixth-generation fighter, as well as systems that will be compatible with it: we are talking, in particular, about unmanned aerial vehicles.
As for the MGCS program, it involves the development of – the German main battle tank, which will replace the German Leopard 2 and the French Leclerc.
Both programs are very stretched in time: most likely, the new models will be adopted no earlier than 2040.
However, FCAS and MGCS are moving forward, albeit slowly. In March, it was reported that Germany and France had achieved a “breakthrough” in the development of a new generation tank.
Even earlier, the parties reached an agreement on the creation of a prototype of the sixth generation fighter.
