A public funeral will be held in memory of the victims of the sextuple murder, which occurred on March 6 in the Barrhaven neighborhood of Ottawa.

A public funeral service will be held on Sunday for the six victims of the murders in the Barrhaven neighborhood from Ottawa last week.

The Buddhist Congress of Canada and a volunteer organizing committee will hold a funeral March 17 in memory of the six members of the Sri Lankan community killed by an acquaintance overnight on March 6.

The multi-faith funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Infinity Convention Centre, Ottawa.

The mother, Darshani Dilanthika Ekanyake, 35, and her four children – a 7-year-old boy, Inuka Wickramasinghe, and three girls, Ashwini Wickramasinghe, 4, Ranaya Wickramasinghe, 3, and Kelly Wickramasinghe, two months – and a family friend, Gamini Amarakoon Amarakoon Mudiyanselage, 40, were stabbed to death, police said.

The father was seriously injured. According to the Buddhist Congress of Canada, he is recovering physically, but he will need psychological support to overcome last week's ordeal.

The man accused of murdering the six people at a Barrhaven residence, Febrio De-Zoysa, has appeared in court twice since the tragedy.

The 19-year-old man is charged with six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. The alleged murderer was arrested after the event by the police without offering any resistance.

He is also from Sri Lanka. According to the Ottawa Police Service, he came to Canada as an international student and lived under the same roof as the family.
