A Bloomberg report has reported that dozens of Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives are considering signing a memo asking President Joe Biden to withdraw his candidacy from the race.
There is growing panic among Democrats that Biden's candidacy could threaten their control of Congress.
Biden is rapidly is losing the support of lawmakers and Democratic candidates who are opposed to the idea that the 81-year-old president's continued campaign would lead to a Republican victory in Washington and an uncontrolled presidency for Donald Trump.
The mayor has been encouraged by the fact that the list is circulating among Democrats running for re-election in traditionally safe Democratic districts. This, in the words of the candidate, underlines how widespread the panic has become in the party.
Only one official Democrat in the House of Representatives is Lloyd Doggett from Texas – some have publicly called on Biden to withdraw from the race, while several others have distanced themselves from the president.
