Criminal the group sold counterfeit equipment under the brand name of a well-known brand

Detectives of the main detective unit of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine together with operatives of the cyber police exposed a group of people who illegally used trademarks belonging to an international company .

The investigation established that the mentioned persons imported copies of gadgets from China. Fakes were advertised and sold on websites, Instagram pages and Telegram channels. Buyers were offered a wide range of equipment: chargers, headphones, smart watches, etc. Branded products were sent by mail throughout Ukraine.

Detectives of the BEB together with employees of the Department of Cyber ​​Police and the Department of Detectives for Strategic Economic Protection of the BEB conducted searches in the Zhytomyr and Khmelnytskyi regions.

As a result law enforcement officers seized more than 4,000 units of counterfeit/falsified products.

In turn, the specialists of the rights-owning company examined samples of counterfeit goods and found that they are of low quality, and the labeling and packaging do not meet quality standards. In addition, the products are manufactured and branded without the permission of the trademark owner. In this way, the company suffered material damage in the amount of approximately UAH 25 million.

Currently, the pre-trial investigation under part 3 of Art. 177 (violation of rights to an invention, utility model, industrial design, etc.) and Part 3 of Art. 229 (illegal use of a mark for goods and services, brand name, qualified indication of the origin of goods) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine continues. Procedural management is carried out by prosecutors of the General Prosecutor's Office, the Bureau of Economic Security reported.
