Game of Thrones

A real phenomenon during the 2010s, Game of Thrones remains one of the great television monuments of the 21st century. Adapting the literary cycle  A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, the series produced by HBO held tens of millions of viewers in suspense between 2011 and 2019, fascinated by its political intrigues, violent battles and mythology. Despite a more controversial finale,  Game of Thrones has undoubtedly reinvigorated the public's interest in fantasy.

Today, Game of Thrones has spawned offspring: the series House of the Dragon, whose season 2 has generated lively debates on social networks, immerses us in the Dance of the Dragons, a terrible civil war that bloodied Westeros 190 years before the events of Game of Thrones. While George R.R. Martin raised a problem that appeared in season 2, the latter was nevertheless praised for its immense artistic qualities.Furthermore, let us recall that the production had to face major difficulties, in particular the request by Warner Bros. to reduce the season from ten to eight episodes due to the economic crisis that is weakening the Hollywood major, and this in the middle of a writers' strike. In 2025, it will be the turn of the series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, adapting The Chronicles of the Knight Errant, to land on HBO.

Moreover, the auctions held between Thursday 10 and Saturday 12 October 2024 in Dallas (United States) and on the Heritage Auctions website (which organised the event), bear witness to the public's deep interest in the universe of Game of Thrones. On the occasion of this sale, 2,000 objects from the series were offered across 910 listed lots.Among the items were costumes, weapons and Tyrion Lannister's “Hand of the King” brooch. The latter was sold for $19,500 (17,800 euros).

Among the most impressive items, we count the Iron Throne, the object of all desires. The auction began $30,000 (€27,300) and the acquisition was made at $1.49 million (€1.36 million). The Longclaw sword, carried by Jon Snow, was sold for $400,000 (€365,000). More amusingly, the bell used by Septa Unella during Cersei Lannister's Walk of Shame in season 5 was sold for $100,000 (€91,000).
