The U.S. Air Force has released video of an incident that the U.S. military believes was triggered by a dangerous maneuver by a Russian fighter jet near Alaska during an interception by the U.S. Air Force last week, Reuters reports.

The U.S. regularly intercepts Russian aircraft in international airspace near Alaska and typically says they are safe and professional. But this time was different, the Pentagon says.

"The actions of the Russian Su-35 were unsafe, unprofessional, and jeopardized the safety of all involved – not what you would expect from a professional Air Force," said U.S. Air Force Gen. Gregory Guillot, who oversees Air Forces in North America. The statement was published on the X platform.

The Russian Embassy in Washington has not yet responded to a request for comment.

On September 23, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) recorded and tracked four Russian military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone.

The statement said at the time that the Russian aircraft activity was “regular and not considered a threat.”

An Air Defense Identification Zone is international airspace outside a country's sovereign territory in which approaching aircraft must identify themselves.
