The US wants to close the loophole for platforms supplying cheap Chinese goods - FT

We are talking about the platforms Temu, Shein and AliExpress.
The administration of US President Joe Biden has decided to close the trade loophole, used by platforms with such cheap Chinese goods as Temu, Shein and AliExpress. The Financial Times writes about it.

Yes, the White House is proposing new rules that exclude a wide range of goods from those that can qualify for benefits that apply to goods worth less than $800.

< p>It is noted that the amount of cargo imported into the country under the de minimis rule has jumped from about 140 million a year 10 years ago to more than 1 billion a year in 2024. 

American officials said that the sheer volume of parcels makes it difficult to block the supply of substandard products and illegal drugs.

The new US rules aim to ensure that direct-to-consumer products cannot avoid higher tariffs, which the White House says cover 40 % of imports from China, including 70% of textiles.
