Insiders: iPhone 17 will get 3nm chips, while 2nm technology will appear only in some versions of iPhone 18

The iPhone 17 lineup, expected next year, will be equipped with processors manufactured using TSMC's advanced 3-nanometer N3P technology. However, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, only some iPhone 18 models will switch to the new 2-nanometer technology in 2026 due to the high cost of production.

3nm technologies. and “2-nm” indicate a generation of microcircuits, where the reduction of these indicators allows placing more transistors on one chip. This improves the performance and power efficiency of the devices.

Apple has already switched to 3nm chips for iPhone and Mac, using the A17 Pro chip in the iPhone 15 Pro and the M3 series for Mac. The new iPhone 16 uses the A18 chip, which is made using the advanced 3nm process, which makes it more efficient.

TSMC plans to start 2nm production in late 2025, and Apple could be the first company to get these chips At the same time, TSMC is actively expanding its production capacity.

Although 2nm technology promises significant improvements, due to the high cost, only some iPhone 18 models will receive the latest chips, while others will continue to use improved 3nm processors.
