Google developers presented their own processor that will increase device performance by 30%

The Google company presented its own specialized processor based on the ARM architecture.

Google Axion — the company's first ARM processor for data centers. It's based on the latest and most powerful ARM cores known as Neoverse V2.

While the Axion is designed for specialized workloads, Google said the chip will also help advance machine learning in the cloud by eliminating bottlenecks, related to CPU performance.

Currently, Google is not a big player in the chip market, but the Axion is far from the company's first chip. Google's first steps in the field of chip development were made in 2015, when the first tensor processors were released. In 2018, the company developed a video encoding chip, and in 2021 released the first Tensor-based mobile system for Pixel devices.

According to Google, Axion provides 30% higher performance compared to processors currently used in the company's cloud. In addition, productivity is 50% higher, and efficiency — by 60% than x86 processors used in other data centers.
