Customs in Germany detained the ship “Atlantic Navigator 2” with Russian timber and enriched uranium on board. The cargo was destined for the USA. The ship, flying the flag of the Marshall Islands, made an emergency stop in the port of Rostock. The newspaper Ostsee Zeitung writes about this.

The Port and Shipping Authority of Rostock told the publication that customs ordered the detention of the ship due to goods authorized by the European Union on board. The total value of the cargo is about 40 million euros, Radio Liberty reports.

The 193-meter ship was forced to enter Rostock harbor on March 4 due to technical problems with the propeller. The damage was apparently caused while passing through ice-covered waters. While at the port, customs noticed the sanctioned cargo. It should have been checked like all goods entering the European Union.

Germany in relation to “Atlantic Navigator 2” and his cargo is being investigated. Until its completion, the bulk carrier has no right to leave the port.
