Woman lost almost 17 thousand hryvnias, hoping to receive financial assistance from the state

A resident of Ruzhyn region lost almost 17 thousand hryvnias, hoping to receive financial assistance from the state. The link she found on the social network was phishing.

As the police established, the applicant believed that she was registering and applying for payments. She indicated her bank card and mobile phone numbers on the website. Then the woman received a call from an unknown man, to whom she also dictated the transaction confirmation code. Thus, a transfer of almost 17 thousand hryvnias was made from her account.

Investigators of the Berdychiv District Police Department have initiated criminal proceedings on the fact of fraud (Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Currently, law enforcement officers are identifying those involved in the scam.

The police also urge citizens to follow the rules of information security:

– be careful with suspicious links. Check the information before following calls from SMS, chat bots or messengers. To do this, read the publications on government websites or consult the «hotlines» of banks;

– please note that to receive «Winter eSupport» payments, you need to personally log in to the «Diya» application (without using any links) installed on your gadget and log in. After that, select the necessary section and follow the steps indicated in the application;

– check any information related to financial transactions. Do not disclose other information (CVV code and passwords from SMS messages) along with your bank card number to third parties.

Be vigilant and do not let fraudsters take advantage of your trust!
