Woman gave 800 thousand euros to “Brad Pitt”: AI helped the scammers

In France, a woman paid a fake Brad Pitt 830 thousand euros. The scammers skillfully extracted money from her, taking advantage of her doubts about her current marriage, as well as photo and video generation technologies using artificial intelligence.

The story was shared by the Belgian publication 7sur7. The main character of the story, 53-year-old Anna, has been wanting to break up with her millionaire husband for two years and in search of communication she first registered on social networks.

There she met “Brad Pitt's mother”, who said that her son dreams of meeting a woman like Anna. Then she introduced her to the “celebrity”, and after that everything went according to plan, the scammers won the woman's heart, and at the same time took possession of her wallet.

“I loved the man I corresponded with. He knew how to talk to women, everything was very well thought out. His words, poems – I received many love messages. Everything a woman could dream of, I received from this man,” – confessed Anna.

The woman initially had doubts that she was talking to a celebrity, but the scammer was able to convince her with the help of images created by artificial intelligence. After that, the attacker said that he had kidney cancer and asked to help him with treatment, because his accounts were blocked due to the courts with Angelina Jolie.

This is how she transferred him 830 thousand euros in several installments. She noticed the trick only after rumors appeared in the media that the real Brad Pitt was dating Ines de Ramon. However, to dispel these doubts, the scammers generated a fake news video story in which the “journalist” talked about the fact that Pitt was actually dating Anna, not Ramon.

And only the photos of the star couple made her finally understand that she had simply been deceived. During this time, Anna lost not only money, but also several friends, quarreled with her daughter, made several suicide attempts and eventually ended up in a clinic specializing in the treatment of severe depression.
