On Apple computers, the F1 key – F12 is combined with system actions such as brightness adjustment and player control. To activate the action, you just need to press the button. And if in “Settings” go to the “Keyboard” section; → “Keyboard shortcuts”, you can configure additional actions for different programs. To turn them on, you need to press the Fn button, often marked with a globe icon, and one of the F keys at the same time.
In the world of Windows, there is no such harmony: somewhere function keys are combined with system actions, and somewhere not. And the set of actions is different everywhere. Therefore, for macOS, we have collected the assignment of keys by normal pressing, and for Windows – in functionality mode. If the F1 buttons – F12 are action icons, most likely you need to hold down the Fn button to switch to function key mode.
