When will iOS 18.3 be released and what will this operating system update bring?

After the release of the second update for the iOS 18 operating system, which brought us major artificial intelligence features, Apple has officially started beta testing iOS 18.3. However, this update will not be as significant as the previous one. What to expect?

iOS 18.3 release date

On December 16, Apple released the first beta version of iOS 18.3 to developers. Based on previous years, iOS 18.3 is likely to be released to the general public sometime in late January. iOS 17.3 was released on January 22, 2023, iOS 16.3 – January 23, 2023, iOS 15.3 – January 26, 2022. So you should expect an update around these days, reports 24 Kanal with reference to 9to5mac.

What's new in iOS 18.3

While iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2 were packed with new Apple Intelligence features and other big updates for iPhone users, iOS 18.3 will be less important.

Support for robot vacuum cleaners. Thanks to code changes in iOS 18.3, support for robot vacuum cleaners has been added to the Home app. This will allow users to add their smart vacuums to HomeKit and control them with Siri, automation, and more.

The Home app now supports basic robot vacuum functions such as power control, cleaning mode, vacuum, mop and charge status. They can also participate in automation and scripting, respond to Siri requests. So you can add them to your cleaning routines or tell Siri to spot clean your living room,
– developers say.

Now it is the turn of robot vacuum cleaner manufacturers to take a step towards supporting HomeKit integration.

Bug fixes. According to Apple's release notes, iOS 18.3 fixes two Apple Intelligence bugs:

  • Personalized Genmoji could not be generated unless another person was selected first.
  • For third-party applications, a problem with using the Writing Tools API on iOS has been fixed.

Minor changes. There has been a very minor change to the Image Playground app icon. You can also now sign in to the Feedback app using Face ID or Touch ID instead of entering a password each time. The Camera Controls menu icon on the Accessibility page of Settings now supports dark mode.

It is possible that Apple will add more features to iOS 18.3 as the beta testing process continues. However, the following Apple Intelligence features are currently not expected to be released until iOS 18.4.
