What you need to do to prevent household appliances from burning out during power outages

Power surges that occur during power outages can cause household appliances to break down. Therefore, it is worth following simple rules that will help protect your boiler, refrigerator, TV and other devices during power outages.

Nowadays, power outages have become regular, so the following recommendations are worth taking into account. This is reported by 24 Channel with reference to OBOZ.UA.

How to protect household appliances during power outages

During power outages, it is extremely important to disconnect household appliances from the network. This will protect them from voltage surges during power outages.

The most effective way to save household appliances is to install voltage relays or stabilizers. According to electricians, they can be installed both directly in the apartment and on the entire entrance. In addition, the cost of an electrician's services in this case reaches about 500 hryvnias, which is several times cheaper than buying a new refrigerator or boiler. It is worth noting that the boiler and refrigerator are the first to be affected. These devices are constantly connected to the network, and if, for example, the equipment does not immediately burn out due to a voltage surge of up to 300 volts, then their service life is significantly reduced.

In addition, it is worth remembering that you should not turn on all devices at once, as electricity appears. It is worth waiting at least 30 minutes until the voltage in the network stabilizes. Fluctuations from the standard 210 – 240 volts to 300 volts negatively affect the equipment. In addition, everything needs to be connected in stages. That is, not immediately and the refrigerator, and the TV, and the microwave, etc., but gradually. If you do it in stages, then there will be no sharp jump in consumption.

According to electricians, it is also important to buy only certified electrical equipment at licensed points of sale, and operation in accordance with the instructions – will allow you to use the device for as long as possible.

General rules that will save household appliances

Unplug appliances from sockets during power outages. According to an electrician, voltage drops most often occur when power is restored, so when everyone turns on electrical appliances at the same time, this leads to accidents and surges. It is better to wait 30 minutes, but if the need to use the equipment is urgent – at least 10 – 15 minutes after turning on the power.

Install a voltage relay or stabilizer. It is also worth considering installing uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). These devices have a so-called “reserve” of current in the battery, so they can support the operation of household appliances during outages. Such UPSs are especially useful for computers, laptops or Wi-Fi routers.
