What is “flight mode” in smartphones and why you need it more often than you think

By clicking on the “airplane” you can restore the cellular signal, speed up the charging of your smartphone and even increase its performance.

Many users are used to switching their smartphone to flight mode only before takeoff, following the instructions of flight attendants. However, as practice has shown, this feature can be useful not only on the plane, but also in everyday life.

Let's figure out what is so useful about airplane mode in a smartphone and why it will come in handy more often than you think.

Note that airplane mode is available on all modern phone models. To turn it on, swipe down from top to bottom on the home screen and click on the “airplane”.

1. Saving battery power

Constant connection to cell towers, searching for Wi-Fi networks, as well as active Bluetooth and GPS – all this noticeably drains the smartphone's battery. Enabling airplane mode allows you to disable these features and significantly increase the device's battery life.

This is especially useful in situations where the battery is critically low and it is important to keep the device working for as long as possible.

2. Fast charging

In airplane mode, the smartphone charges much faster, as the device stops wasting energy on supporting network connections and background processes.

If the smartphone is sadly signaling with a red battery icon, and there is little time before the light turns off, activating airplane mode will help speed up the process.

3. Quick connection recovery

In case of problems with connecting to the cellular network or Wi-Fi, a typical recommendation is to restart the smartphone. However, this takes time, and you don't always want to wait.

In such cases, it is better to turn on airplane mode for a few seconds and turn it off again. The smartphone will re-find all networks, as it would after a normal reboot.

4. Airplane mode in games

Advertising blocks by default require pre-loading from the Internet, so if there is no Internet, they will not be displayed.

To do this, just activate airplane mode before starting the game and you can enjoy your favorite game without ads. However, it is worth understanding that this is only suitable for offline games.

5. Focus on work

A rather radical but effective way to create a comfortable digital environment, turning off all distractions and allowing you to focus on the task at hand.

However, turning on airplane mode does not mean complete isolation from the outside world. The camera, music player, video player and applications that do not require a network connection remain available for use.
