The final trailer for Venom: The Last Dance has just been released online. It's a chance to get a first glimpse of Knull, the big baddie of the story. But did you know that Knull's presence creates a direct connection to Thor's universe?
After two parts largely panned by professional critics and some fans, Venom will return in a third opus directed by Kelly Marcel, who is making his first feature film here. Tom Hardy is obviously back as Eddie Brock in an adventure that could be his last.
The new trailer for Venom : The Last Dancehas confirmed; identity of the main antagonist of the film. This is Knull, the symbiote God, a central figure in the Venom universe in the comics. Created in 2018 by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman, Knull is a primordial god who emerged from the void that existed before the creation of the universe. It was when the Celestials began to shape the universe that Knull awoke from his slumber. He reacted with hostility to the creation of the universe, seeing it as an intrusion into his realm of darkness. After being sealed away in his own realm, Knull found another way to get revenge by creating a parasitic life form capable of binding and controlling other beings: the symbiotes. It was through Knull that Venom was born, and was able to parasitize Spider-Man in Secret Wars in 1985.
To get revenge on the Celestials, Knull created an extremely powerful magical artifact. He gave birth to the Necrosword, a sword born from his shadow and the energies of the void, capable of killing a Celestial. And that's where the connection with Thor comes in.

The latter took over the comic book series Thor, and made many significant changes. It was he who notably imagined Jane Foster as Thor, and who gave him terminal cancer. He was also the one who deposed Thor, who became Odinson. Finally, it was also Jason Aaron who created Gorr, the Butcher of the Gods. Ideas that were taken up almost identically by Taika Waititi in Thor: Love and Thunder.
But then, where is the connection with Knull? Well, the sword that Gorr brandishes in Jason Aaron's comics, but also in Taika Waititi's film, is precisely the Necrosword. A blade made of darkness capable of killing the Gods. And Taika Waititi has generally respected the mythology of the Necrosword. As in the comics, this sword corrupts its wielder. It is in this logic that Gorr (Christian Bale) becomes the destroyer of Gods and begins his vengeful quest.
So, the connections between Venom and Thor are already established. The Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU) can therefore easily use this link to build a bridge with the Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). In the comics, Knull uses his sword to cut off the head of a Celestial. Said head will then become a space base called Knowhere, present in the Guardians of the Galaxy saga. As usual with Marvel, everything is linked!
Thus, the connection between Thor and Venom already exists. All that remains is for the two studios to agree to explore this vein. ÇThat's good, because it's rumored that Knull could join the MCU and could be the big baddie of Spider-Man 4. In the meantime, Venom: The Last Dance is expected on October 30 in theaters.
