The Supreme Court of Venezuela has fined the social network TikTok $10 million. The lawsuit was filed after the deaths of three children who participated in dangerous challenges, Bloomberg reports.
The owner company must pay the fine within 10 days and also open an official representative office in Venezuela.
As is known, the trial began last month after the tragic deaths of three teenagers aged 12, 13 and 14. According to President Nicolas Maduro, the children were injured by consuming, inhaling and spreading “dangerous mixtures” of chemicals while participating in challenges on the social platform.
The judges found TikTok liable for the “lack of timely control” of problems on the platform. The fine will go to a compensation fund for the victims.
TikTok representatives have not yet commented on the court's decision.
