The deadlines were set as a result of four days of negotiations between representatives of the military departments of the two countries in Niger's capital, Niamey, a joint statement said.

Niger's demand for troop withdrawal is a blow to US military operations in the Sahel – the vast sub-Saharan region where al-Qaeda-linked groups operate. and the Islamic State.

According to a senior military and senior defense official who spoke to reporters, American troops and equipment have already begun to leave Niger.
