US State Department Finally Closes Center for Combating Foreign Misinformation

< IMG SRC = "/Uploads/Blogs/F8/DB/IB-1IOVRNM5_F34BFD3A.PNG" Alt = "US State Department Finally Close Center for Combating Foreign Misinformation"/> ~ ~ > < p > US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the closure of the Center for Global Interaction (GEC) & ndash; created in 2016 of a structural unit to combat foreign misinformation.

< p > As reports “European Truth”, the corresponding statement was made on May 16.

< P > According to State Secretary, GEC “spent millions of dollars on active silence and censorship of votes of Americans to which he should serve.” < P >< Br /> “Under the Trump Presidential Administration, we will always work on protecting the rights of the American people, and this is an important step in continuing the fulfillment of this obligation”, & ndash; added Rubio.

< P > The Center for Global Interaction was created under the US State Department in 2016. Its annual budget earlier amounted to $ 61 million, and the state & ndash; about 120 people.

< P > Gec has long been a object of criticism of Republicans in Congress, which accuse him of censorship and tracking on Americans. The Center was criticized by Ilon Musk, who in 2023 called it “a threat to our democracy.”

< p > GEC management rejected these accusations by calling its work important for combating foreign propaganda campaigns.

< P > In fact, the Global Interaction Center stopped working from the end of 2024, since the budget did not invest money for its financing. This for the first time in eight years left the State Department without a special department for tracking and counteracting misinformation by US opponents.

< P > Last year it was on the basis of the GEC that the launch of a multinational Ukrainian communication group based in Warsaw was announced to counteract Russian misinformation about the war in Ukraine.
