The UN has suspended food distribution in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip due to dwindling supplies and insecurity.

UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said World Food Program (WFP) distribution centers ) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) are unavailable due to the ongoing military operation in Rafah, Voice of America reports.

According to the UN, about 1.1 million people face high levels of hunger.

Rafah checkpoint on the border with Egypt, which was once the main entry point for aid delivery, has been closed since May 6.

Additionally, no aid trucks have crossed the US-built floating pier in the past two days.< /p>

A WFP spokeswoman said that “humanitarian operations in Gaza are close to collapse.”

Abir Etefa warned that if supplies of food and other supplies to Gaza do not resume, “massive, similar with widespread starvation, conditions will spread.”

Additionally, UNRWA stated that its health centers have not received any medical supplies for 10 days, but medical personnel are still providing medical consultations at those centers that remain open.

Meanwhile, the head of the WHO reported on the social network X that the Al-Awda hospital in northern Gaza “has been under siege since May 19, when no one is allowed to leave or enter it.”
