Ukrainian woman sentenced to 5 years in prison for justifying Russian aggression on the Internet

The court found a resident of the Uman district guilty of justifying, recognizing as legitimate and denying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as of glorifying its participants. This was reported on the official website of the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, throughout 2022, the convicted woman created pages under fictitious names on the banned social network «Odnoklassniki». In her posts, she supported the aggressor country, justified the so-called «special operation», recognized the occupation of Ukrainian territories as legitimate, and spread propaganda narratives about «denazification». The woman also glorified individuals who carry out armed aggression against Ukraine.

The illegal activity was exposed in February 2023. At the time of the verdict, the woman was in custody. The court sentenced her to 5 years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by investigators of the USBU in the Cherkasy region. The Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office secured a public indictment in court.

This verdict once again demonstrates that justifying aggression and supporting the occupying country will not go unpunished.
