Two repeat arsonists who acted on behalf of the enemy were detained in Transcarpathia

Operators of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Transcarpathian region and the Mukachevo District Police Department, in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine, exposed two residents of the Mukachevo region who were involved in a series of deliberate arsons in the region.

According to operational police data, both suspects were recruited by the special services of the Russian Federation. The goal of the latter remains to destabilize the situation in the country and the rear regions in particular.

The perpetrators, for the promised several hundred dollars, managed to set fire to the building of one of the village councils and a mobile phone tower in the Mukachevo region. In both cases, the relevant services responded in time, so significant negative consequences were avoided.

Using the capabilities of the criminal analysis department and the video surveillance system «Bezpechne Zakarpattya», the investigators established that the arsonists arrived at the scene of the crimes on bicycles. The police also established the exact address where they were hiding after committing the arson.

With the forceful support of the KORD special unit, both suspects were detained. The 43- and 46-year-old previously convicted Transcarpathians are currently placed in a temporary detention center. The eldest of the suspects was only recently released from custody, having posted bail set by the court. He was detained by police officers for drug trafficking.

Now, investigators of the Mukachevo District Police Department have qualified the actions of the arsonists under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Both have been notified of suspicion. According to the sanction of the incriminating article, the detainees face up to 10 years in prison.
