The trial of three Bulgarians accused of spying for Russia has begun in a London court, with two of them pleading guilty.
This was reported by Reuters with reference to data from the London court, reports “European Pravda”.
As noted, on Thursday, November 28, two of the three Bulgarians accused of being part of the same spy network admitted to involvement in this.
At the start of the trial, prosecutor Alison Morgan said that two men – Orlin Rusev and Bizer Dzhambazov – had confessed to participating in the espionage conspiracy.
“Between 2020 and 2023, these defendants, along with a number of others, spied for Russia. They all knew why they were being instructed to carry out their operations. Their activities were aimed at directly or indirectly benefiting Russia,” she said.
According to the prosecutor, the group carried out surveillance, used false documents, employed advanced technology and prepared detailed reports in exchange for significant sums of money.
Other suspects – 33-year-old Kateryna Ivanova, 30-year-old Vanya Gaberova and 39-year-old Tikhomyr Ivanchev – deny charges of conspiracy to commit espionage, in which they may have participated with others, including a Russian agent under the pseudonym Richard Teach.
Ivanova also denies charges of possessing false identity documents.
In early September, Russia said it had stripped six British embassy staff of their accreditation, accusing them of espionage and subversive activities.
At the time, the British Foreign Office called the FSB's accusations against British embassy staff in Moscow completely unfounded.
On November 26, Moscow expelled the seventh British diplomat in the last four months on espionage charges.
