The administration of US President Donald Trump will provide access to briefings not only to media workers, but also to influencers, TikTokers, bloggers and other representatives of non-traditional mass media. This was announced by Trump's press secretary Caroline Levitt, writes The Times.
Influential figures on social networks will be allowed to apply for accreditation to cover events at the White House, if their content is related to the news.
“The Trump White House will communicate with all media outlets and personalities, not just the old media sitting in this room, because, according to the latest Gallup polls, Americans' trust in the media has fallen to an all-time low,” Levitt noted.
Levitt added that several seats reserved for the press service will now be “seats for new media.” Trump's press secretary called it a “revolutionary approach to the media.”
“We know for a fact that a lot of the old media in this country has been spreading lies about this president, about his family, and we will not tolerate that,” Levitt said.
She said the credentials would be offered to those who meet the Trump administration's criteria and pass a Secret Service background check. She did not specify what those criteria would be, but directed interested media outlets to a new page on the White House website.
