The Sûreté du Québec first received the report around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday of a group of snowmobilers in difficulty in the La Martre sector, near Mont Médaille, in the Chic-Chocs.

Three people were missing after an avalanche.

A ground search operation has been deployed. Firefighters from the Sainte-Anne-des-Monts fire department and paramedics were also dispatched to support the SQ avalanche team.

The victims were found shortly before 11 p.m. They were transported to a hospital center. Their death was then noted. An investigation is underway.

The three victims, from Estrie, were aged in their thirties.
