In the US, the SoHyCal hydrogen initiative won the 2024 Cogeneration Project of the Year award from the Combined Heat and Power Alliance. ECOticias portal writes about it.

It is reported that the SoHyCal project involves the production of hydrogen by electrolysis, which is completely provided by renewable energy sources. The company currently uses biogas as fuel, but plans to switch to solar energy in the next stages.

According to the portal, the project now generates up to one ton of hydrogen per day. By the second quarter of 2025, SoHyCal is expected to generate a total of three tons of hydrogen per day. This is enough to power about 210,000 cars or 30,000 city buses per year.

An important component of the SoHyCal project is cogeneration technology. The biogas engine used in this initiative is able to produce electricity and heat simultaneously, which allows for more efficient use of resources.
