Meta continues to change its moderation and content guidelines. Instagram and Threads will begin including political content in their recommendations, a departure from policies that both platforms adopted last year.
Details
Last year, Instagram and Threads made it possible for users to choose whether or not to see political content. Now you can't completely refuse it, you just have to choose how often you see it.
Meta explains this by changes to its “freedom of expression” policy. The new settings allow you to choose between options: less, standard or more political content. The update will be implemented in the US first, and later – worldwide, the BBC reports.
The head of platforms Adam Mosseri claims that users have asked for more political content, but experts such as Drew Benvy of Battenhall believe that the real reason – the changing political situation in the US. Benvy warns that this could contribute to the spread of misinformation among more than 2 billion users.
