This new horror film is banned for under-18s in France

A few hours ago, we told you about The Substance, the ultra-gory film that is sending audiences fleeing in the UK and the US. And as October marks the season of fear and many are hoping to shiver with terror as the Halloween holidays draw closer, there is another horror film that has recently been making headlines, as it is one of the few films to Be prohibited for under 18s in France.

The season of fear starts strong with Terrifier 3

At the beginning of the year, we presented our selection of the most anticipated horror films of 2024, including Smile 2 and Terrifier 3. The latter marks the return of the famous Art the Clown, who was first discovered in the short film The 9th Circle from 2008, then in All Hallows' Eve (2013), and who subsequently returned in Terrifier (2016) and its 2022 sequel.

And while the theatrical release of Terrifier 3is scheduled for release in our country on October 9, 2024, the new installment of the horror saga will be banned for those under 18, which is quite rare. Indeed, the film's distributor ESC Éditions published a press release on this subject yesterday, explaining that the feature film was subject to such a ban from the Classification Commission.

We thus learn that initially, Terrifier 3 was only supposed to be banned for viewers under 16. The distributor therefore fears that this final decision will harm the release of the project, which is expected by “tens of thousands of French viewers”, especially given the period which is particularly conducive to this kind of film.

This is a sufficiently rare ban to be highlighted, because as some have pointed out, one of the last horror films to have been banned for all minors was none other than Saw 3 in 2006, almost 20 years ago. It should be noted, however, that other feature films have been banned for under-18s since then, but this was mainly due to explicit sex scenes, like the erotic dramas Nymphomaniac – Volume 2 (2014) by Lars von Trier or Love (2015) by Gaspar Noé.

And to continue on the same theme, discover this project announced by the creator of The Boys that should delight horror fans.
