When college students were asked who they most looked up to as an example of financial success, they said it was definitely an old-school figure. We are talking about the founder of Microsoft – 68-year-old Bill Gates.
As a recent survey showed, they are looking for financial inspiration in the technology and entertainment industry, writes Business Insider. Last month, Insider's subsidiary Morning Brew and Generation Lab, talked to almost 1,000 college students across the US. They asked the students to name three people who most personify financial success.

Perhaps it is not surprising that three of the four richest people in the world rank first as the best examples of financial success.
But Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, did not top the ranking this time. The CEO of Tesla took third place. It's been a year since Musk bought Twitter and turned it into the X we know today. Since then, the former Twitter has lost nearly $70 million a day in market value.
Gates, who tops the list, is worth about $126 billion, according to Bloomberg estimates, making him the fourth-richest person in the world.< /p>

In the last years of their careers Gates is better known for his philanthropic and family activities, but once he competed with colleagues to sleep as little as possible. At the time, Gates said he considered sleep to be laziness.
Jeff Bezos, the man behind Amazon, may have surpassed Gates in wealth, but he is #2 on the list of college students. In recent years, Bezos has been buying up real estate to add to his huge real estate portfolio. Bezos recently announced he's moving to Miami.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift is officially entering the billionaire era after her record-breaking Eras tour, so it's no surprise she made the list. Swift even beat out multi-billionaires and industry giants Mark Zuckerberg and Warren Buffett for fourth place.
And she's not the only musician inspiring young people with her wealth. Beyoncé, Rihanna and Jay-Z have been named in the top three financial icons by more than one person.
In fact, the list consists mostly of public figures who were famous before they became entrepreneurs. Other honorable mentions include NBA star LeBron James, actor Ryan Reynolds and media icon Oprah Winfrey.
