The UN Security Council approved a resolution demanding that Yemen's Houthis stop attacks on ships.
The document also calls for an urgent search for solutions to maritime security problems in the most important waterway in the Middle East.
< p>The resolution does not mention that Iran-backed rebels say they are staging attacks because of the Israeli-Hamas war in Gaza, reports Associated Press.
The resolution also extends the requirement for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to report monthly on Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The resolution was adopted with 12 votes in favor and no votes against. nobody. However, Russia, China and Algeria abstained.
Due to the Houthi strikes, shipping on this route, which is of great importance for the markets of Asia, the Middle East and Europe, has sharply declined.
However, the Houthis declare that they will continue the campaign as long as there is war in the Gaza Strip.
