The Ukrainian war veteran conquered Mount Kazbek for the first time

Ukrainian war veteran/3 -the separate assault brigade

A fighter of the first company of the second assault battalion of the Third Separate Assault Brigade Oleg Shakhov (call sign Shah) lost his arm in the battles in Orlivka in March 2024. But in half a year, the veteran found the strength to conquer the mountains.

Oleg Shakhov dedicated his ascent to the 5,054-meter peak to Ukrainian soldiers. This is reported in the Telegram channel of the Third Separate Assault Brigade.

The idea to climb Kazbek with a warrior belongs to the Ukrainian record holder and climber Tetyana Yalovchak, who conquered seven highest peaks on seven continents and six highest volcanoes, she was the leader of the expedition.

We need to show our heroes. I have been looking for a military man since May, – mountaineer Tetyana Yalovchak told the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

According to Tetyana, there were only 2 people in the expedition. A representative of Georgia, who supports Ukraine and has climbed Kazbek 77 times, also helped in the ascent.

When there is a dream, there is desire and inspiration. Obstacles can be overcome. You have to believe, believe, believe in your dream. I looked at Oleg, I saw his fatigue and great desire to reach the top for the sake of his brothers, – reported record-holder climber Tetyana Yalovchak.

It was frosty and hot, then blurred by clouds so that you can't see anything, then sunny, and it felt like your face was on fire, without acclimatization and sleep it was difficult, but we did it! Headache. Nausea. The weather was deteriorating, we couldn't wait and we climbed in two days, said Oleg Shakhov, a soldier of the Third Separate Assault Brigade.

Alpinist Tetyana Yalovchak added that a normal climb to the top should have taken five days.
