The technical characteristics of the newest Turkish howitzers Firtina-II are revealed

According to SavunMasanayist resource, Turkish Land Forces will receive 140 updated 155mm self-propelled howitzers, of which at least ten have already been transferred to the military.

< P > The modernization program includes the introduction of an electric drive of the tower, the barrel system, the automatic mechanism of charging ammunition and the remote controlled SARP combat module. In addition, updates cover a modernized fire control system, a climate control system and automatic fire extinguishing. In the future, the howitzer is planned to be equipped with a Turkish power plant Utku.

< P > Firtina-II develops the concept of original Firtina, based on Korean K9 Thunder and has been used in Turkey since 2004. The howitzer is equipped with a 155-mm gun with a barrel length of 52 calibers, compatible with standard NATO ammunition, and has a shooting range up to 40 km. Current modification uses the MTU 881 KA-500 diesel engine with a capacity < P > In parallel with the update of Firtina-II, Turkey develops an alternative self-propelled howitzer G & Amp; Uuml; Rhan; Rhan with a hybrid power plant that combines a diesel engine and an electric motor with a total power of 1300 horsepower. This project aims to increase the export potential of Turkish military equipment. Test g & uuml; rhan successfully completed in July 2024.
