The Romanian Ministry of Defense refuted fake news about preparations for war and border closures

On Sunday, the Ministry of Defense of Romania warned about the mass distribution of numerous fake news on TikTok and other social networks, which aim to cause panic among citizens.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Romania Journal.

In the first statement of the Ministry of National Defense of Romania, attention was drawn to new attempts to spread disinformation in the online environment, especially in TikTok, regarding the so-called imminent preparation for the recruitment of young people aged 18 to 35 or the mobilization of reservists for the purpose of sending them to the front in Ukraine.

In the second statement of the agency, it is reported that Romanian borders and port infrastructure were targeted. In particular, one of the discovered messages falsely claims that the borders of Romania will be closed and guarded by the military, while another refers to the accumulation of military equipment, which is not actually in service with the Romanian army, in the port of Constanta.

The Ministry of Defense added that various records of movements of military equipment made in previous days are presented as current, namely dated December 7. An example of this is the December 1 image taken in Bucharest, which shows the movement of tanks and armored vehicles of the Romanian army and allied forces. Widespread photos taken during a military parade in the country mislead users of social networks, the Ministry of Defense noted.

The ministry added that such fake news is created to cause panic.
