The Romanian government has approved a bill that will allow the shooting down of foreign drones in the country's airspace

The Romanian government has approved a bill that expands and regulates control measures over the use of national airspace by drones and other aircraft. This was reported by Digi24 on Thursday, December 12.

The document defines situations in which the use of airspace is a violation.

For example, it concerns unauthorized flights, deviations from established routes, disruptions in the operation of identification systems, flights in prohibited areas, as well as aerial photography without coordination with the Ministry of Defense and if the drone endangers objects of the Ministry of Defense and/or institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Transport.

The shooting down of an aircraft that violates airspace is approved by order of the country's Supreme Defense Council.

On October 29, the Romanian Defense Ministry prepared a bill that would allow the country's army to shoot down Russian drones that illegally violate its airspace.

On October 23, Romania's radar systems recorded two signals, probably from drones that violated the country's airspace. Two F-16s were scrambled to intercept them, but the fighters were unable to visually detect the drones before they disappeared from radar.
