The end of season 2 of the Rings of Power is approaching
The end of season 2 of the Rings of Poweris coming. Next Thursday, the eighth and final episode of the most expensive series of all time will be released on Prime Video. Many things should be resolved, and new narrative arcs will emerge..
It is then expected that the identity of the stranger will be (finally) revealed, and that an epic conclusion will be brought to the siege of Eregion, which pits the Elves of Ost-in-Edhil and those led by Elrond, against the Orcs of Adar. Most of the characters have been gathered in and around the city of the master smith Celebrimbor, who has managed to free himself from the grip of Sauron, but who remains under his yoke. And those who are familiar with the work of J.R.R. Tolkien know what will become of him. He will be killed by Morgoth's disciple before being riddled with Orc arrows, then used as a banner to frighten the free peoples. A very brutal sequence described in The Silmarillon.

A very sad fate that nevertheless amused the Reddit community. It was rather this idea of a banner that made Internet users react. On the social network, the terms banner and Celebrimbor were diverted to form portmanteau words like Celebanner or Celebrimbanner. For his part, an Internet user went to further by launching a petition to change the name of the banner of the subreddit r/LOTR_on_prime.
Even actors Charlie Vickers (Sauron) and Charles Edwards, who plays Celebrimbor, had fun with the expression following a question from a journalist. While we imagine that the city of Ost-in-Edhil will be ravaged by the Orcs in episode 8, the death of the jeweler is not guaranteed. Prime Video could very well decide to seal the fate of his character at the beginning of season 3. But the platform has every interest in using this tragic sequence to beautifully close the end of its season which has once again disappointed the spectators. The latter have criticized: more or less the same things to the showrunners as in the first season. The controversial kiss between Elrond and Galadriel is symptomatic of the problems with the series' treatment of the works and appendices of the British novelist.
