Sony Xperia 1 VI smartphone launch set for May 17

Sony has announced an Xperia product launch on May 17, which is expected to unveil the new Xperia 1 VI flagship smartphone. Some details about this smartphone have already appeared online.

The report states that the Xperia 1 VI flagship smartphone is expected to measure 161.9×74.5×8.4mm, with a slight increase in width and thickness compared to the Xperia 1 V due to the change in aspect ratio. The device will move away from the 21:9 aspect ratio of its predecessors, now adopting a more massive 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It is rumored to feature a 2K+ or Quad HD+ screen with a resolution of around 3200×1440 pixels, which is different from the 4K displays in previous models.

As for the optics, there were conflicting reports. The first report said that the Xperia 1 VI will have a triple camera setup that will use three 48-megapixel Exmor T sensors, meaning the main, ultra-wide and telephoto cameras will have Sony's most advanced camera sensor.

On the other hand , a recent report dismissed those claims, saying the Xperia 1 VI will have a 48MP, f/1.9, 24mm, 1/1.35 primary camera paired with a 12MP, f/2.2, 16mm, 1/2 ultra-wide camera .5 and a 12MP telephoto camera, f/2.3, 85mm, f/2.8, 125mm, 1/3.5. This means that the Exmor T sensor will have only the main camera. It's also worth noting that this is the exact same camera setup as the current Xperia 1 V.

So we'll probably have to wait until May 17th for an official clarification on this. It's also worth noting that while this launch will take place on May 17th, the phones will likely take a few more weeks to hit store shelves as usual.
