The new technology allows to charge electric cars at high speed

Engineers from Purdue University, in partnership with the Indiana Department of Transportation, began working on the construction of a stretch of highway with the possibility of recharging electric vehicles while driving. The technology will make it possible to charge cars and semi-trucks moving at a speed of more than 100 km/h.

The goal of engineers from Indiana is to make a highway capable of charging electric cars without wires. According to the authors of the development, its power allows charging even electric trucks, such as the Tesla Semi. The highway is planned to be put into operation in 2025.

The secret of the technology lies in the induction coils located under the asphalt, which transmit energy to the coils of electric vehicles. Thus, it is possible to create a whole network of highways capable of charging electric cars while driving, even at high speeds.

Since the technology requires that electric cars be equipped with a coil, manufacturers of electric vehicles will have to mass-equip their models with this component. At the same time, it is planned to electrify powerful sections of the road within four to five years.
